MSPBJ wins at Minnesota Newspaper Association awards

The Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal won eight awards at the Minnesota Newspaper Association Best Newspaper Contest Awards on Jan. 24 at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Bloomington.

Despite being a weekly, MSPBJ competed in the daily circulation of 10,000 or more, taking home six first-place awards, one second place and one third. MSPBJ took first place in Typography and Design, General Reporting, Advertising Excellence, Self-Promotion or House Ad, Use of Information Graphics and Graphic Illustrations, and General Excellence. The Business Journal also took second in Design Portfolio, and third in Use of Photography as a Whole.

Eligible entries for awards must have been published between Sept. 1, 2017 and Aug. 31 of 2018.

I am very proud of the team I work with. The Business Journal is a small office, but it has talented and smart people working in every department. I'm particularly proud of the creative team I lead in senior graphic artist Matt Haesly and photographer Nancy Kuehn.

Congrats to all who won this year in Minnesota. On a personal note, it was great to see some old friends and colleagues that I had the pleasure of working with and for throughout my 23-year career in the newspaper industry.

Hope to see you next year.
